On Feb. 21, 2023, Stefan Ackermann successfully defended his PhD thesis on “Safe Halt as Fail-safe Concept for Automated Driving Systems”. His thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hermann Winner.

An Open Software and Hardware Architecture for Future Vehicles
2023/02/15
In the AUTOtech.agil joint project that has just started, an open software and hardware architecture is to be created for the mobility system of the future. In this way, the transformation of road traffic can be actively shaped. The research project is funded with almost 25 million euros by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the funding guideline “Electronics and software development methods for the digitization of automobility (Mannheim)”.

FZD welcomes Mercedes-Benz EQS with Drive Pilot
2023/01/24
FZD welcomes its latest family member: a battery electric sedan with the first conditionally automated driving system (L3) meeting the legal requirements of the international UN-R157. FZD will use it in research and teaching (e.g. in the Automotive Engineering Tutorial). A first research study is already on its way – more to come, stay tuned!.

FZD performs first tests with latest lidar technology
2022/12/25
Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) Lidar combines the advantages of radar and lidar. As thus it is a very promising technology to further enhance sensing for automated driving tasks. FZD currently runs its first tests of this very new technology with an Aeva Aries II sensor.
