Development of a Method for Systematically Deriving Test Scenarios for Validating Perception Sensor Simulations

Research on the topic of perception sensor simulation development and validation in ADAS/automated driving is being conducted at the Institute of Automotive Engineering Darmstadt (FZD). To this end, this thesis aims to develop a method that can be used to systematically derive test scenarios for the development and validation of lidar and radar sensor simulations.

  • Research and familiarization with lidar/radar sensors, perception sensor simulation and validation methods
  • Collecting and evaluating existing test scenarios
  • Identifying requirements for test scenarios based on the given requirements for the sensor simulation
  • Developing a generic method for systematically deriving test scenarios for specific simulation requirements
  • Demonstration of the method in the context of a lidar sensor simulation
